what kind of private land is it? if it is an apartment, condo complex, even a shopping center, every type of private property that has a property owner can have a car towed off of it. The property owner needs to contact a tow company and see what the requirements are for towing off of private property in your state. if you have an apartment manager i would talk to them about contracting with a tow company to remove vehicles that do this.
I would first try leaving a note or even watching closely out your window and perhaps pointing out to the person that it is not a public parking spot.

Personally I'd be really peeved off...I'd stick some 4 inch nails in the tyres, stick a potatoe in the exhaust and bend the wiper blades crooked. If all this doesn't have the desired effect,I'd politely ask him/her to park somewhere else.

Is this an apartment building? If you don't have a number or name in front of the space, the person may not know it is yours. If you don't know who it is, I would leave a note under the windshield wiper telling them this is your space, and if they come again, to please park in a different spot.
