I hate it when white people try to make him out to be a crazy, radical black man...

Malcolm had 3 distinct stages in his life. in his younger years, he was a gangster, and thief and went to jail for it. While in jail, he realized that he didn't like the way his life was going so he decided to change it. He joined the Nation of Islam and became a prominent member. He was pretty racist in this time of his life, being brainwashed by the NOI. He eventually became suspicious of the Nation of Islam and disapproved of the lifestyle of its leader. He took a trip to Africa, Egypt, Mecca, and the Middle East and learning that there were Muslims of all colors. He came back a changed man. I think that he was a progressive mind, more of a realist than a racist. He was about getting blacks the rights that they deserved just like Martin Luther King, but Malcolm did it in a different way. He did it in a more in-your-face, aggressive style as opposed to the passive style of King.

Malcom X was originally a racist and he admitted it. This was because, I am paraphrasing here, of the situation in the USA where it was all about race.

He did not see the error in his thinking, according to his book again, until he traveled to Mecca. In Mecca he found a place where people were not in his mind judged by race.

Malcom X was a pretty blunt guy, so I guess its safe to call him a realist.

I guess you could also call him a black nationalist although im not sure if his aims were the same at the end or not.

At the end, he did meet American whites who he felt were sincere.

No not racist, it's one thing to be racist because you just don't like another group. It's another to not like a group because they, Kill, Lynch, oppression, have Hate groups burn down your house call you bad names. They rape them, send their dogs after them and set fire hoses on them. How can you say he was a racist?

Can you blame him? Listening to "the man" is why all of this happens why trust in the thing (system) when 400 years it's proven to be against you. If his people face oppression putting 400 years of trust into another group, can you really blame him? I don't trust everyone because that would make me guilty of repeating the past.

he started out belonging to a racist cult, but was always searching and developing his knowledge. he eventually broke away from that cult and was murdered for it. he had some very positive ideas about black power, meaning self-respect and self-reliance and could have eventually become a very positive force in american politics.

at first he said that blacks had put up with so much it was time that whites felt that too, but before he dies, and i think having much to do with MLK and other peacful activists, he saw that violence doesnt end violence, and only peace will bring peace. even tho im white i respect such passion for fighting injustice, and im glad that he had a change of heart so i can look up to him too.
