Antifreeze serves two purposes, The first to stop the engine from freezing and failing,
The second purpose is it is used as a rust inhibitor.
Without antifreeze as an inhibitor rusting on the metal components would cause a problem,While the aluminium components would slowly be dissolved.
The deposits of this would settle in the radiator matrix clogging the radiator and heater.
For this reason Modern cars have Antifreeze change written into there service schedules.
Let the garage fill it as it can scald you if you open the radiator cap while hot.

Ford colour code the various things that need topping up or level checking so look in the manual for the cooling system header tank (normally at the back right hand side), normally theres a rubber pipe going from it to the radiator at the front of the car. The antifreeze goes in there and you might need to drain some coolant off first by syphoning it out with a hose. Make sure you get it right though because putting antifreeze in the wrong hole would matter.

Water freezes at 32 F. Antifreeze lowers the freezing point of water. Antifreeze also has a lot of additives that prevent rust from developing in the generally iron engine. A 50/50 mixture is generally adequate, but in the coldest climes a 70% mixture may be reguired. Never use 100% antifreeze . It either goes in the radiator or an overflow tank. Some cars don't allow you to remove the radiator cap, kinda dangerous when the vehicle is hot. You test antifreeze with a density testor . It will even give you your protection level

The antifreeze goes into the coolant system - it stops your engine freezing up, surprise surprise! On the top of your radiator, there is a round cap that you open - DO NOT DO THIS IF THE ENGINE'S HOT!!! - it'll spurt out at you. Most garages like Kwikfit or whatever do free winter checks, they'll test the levels of antifreeze in your system, and it won't cost much for you to have them top your car up if necessary. It doesn't go into the screenwash reservoir, you need screenwash for that!

antifreeze goes into the cooling system of a car, usually put into the radiator via the radiator cap. antifreeze means and is just that, it prevents the car's cooling system from freezing during cold winter nights. when ordinary water was used to cool a car's engine, during the winter, the water would freeze and crack the engine block and that required either buying a new engine or car

Well do you smoke pot . are you missing any or any pot plants in the area ...I think your pet vet possible doesn't know what he/she is talking about and that's why he said it was pot .. I don't understand i hope when you mention that he possible had antifreeze that the doctor would of done blood work and monitor the kidney values next few weeks ... i have seen animals that have eaten pot before and those also are similar symptoms , But most of the time the owners knew the dog ate there stash ... but i live in an area where pot plants don't grow out in the bush so depending where you live your dog could of found a plant and figured he/she would eat it and your friends dog followed suit or the other way around also i feel it more likely they ate a poisonous plant other than marijuana

Do not just sling antifreeze into the radiator it might have it in already. Halfords do a tester to suck up a drop of the water and then little coloured balls float in it. Which colours float and which sink tells you how much antifreeze is in there.

Its not antifreeze. Its called coolant. This is because it helps the car engine stay cool in hot weather (98% of the time)& keeps it from freezing in cold weather. (2% of time). It goes in the expansion bottle. This is a sealed system & if it has not leaked it will not need a top up of coolant.

Agree with all else, but one important point missed... when water freezes, it expands. This will crack your engine. Hence, the need for antifreeze

you put the antifreeze in your waterbottle that keeps the windows clean and in the radiater. you do this so when it iced over you can clear the windows because the anti freeze acts like hot water and clears the windows, plus in the radiater so you dont blow your engine up because your car wont go far with a block of ice in side it, because the water goes round your engine to keep it cool
