Brutus killed Caesar to become ruler... However, Mark Anthony had swayed the crowd with a speech in which, after every point he made he'd repeat "But Brutus said he was ambitious... And Brutus is an honorable man!".

It was a group of people that committed this act but Brutus was the most famous because he was also a friend of Caesar. As far as Brutus is concerned it is believed with certainty that he agreed to killing Caesar because he was deeply devoted to the Roman Republic. Caesar's ambition and behavior was regarded from the majority of the Senate as a threat to the Republic. It is a common belief that Brutus was a pure believer of the power of the Roman Senate and the people of Rome and he could not accept Caesar as the Emperor of Rome. Nevertheless in this group there were also other senators for whom we know very little and we cannot be sure about their integrity or their faith to the Republic. But I strongly believe that it was Brutus' decision to participate in the plan due to his belief that the Republic was in danger

Funny how people are quoting Shakespeare to answer this question.

Brutus and 22 other senators killed Caesar. One stab each. Brutus stabbed Caesar in the gentials because Brutus's mother was Caesar's mistress for years (and Brutus was also supposed to marry Caesar's daughter but Caesaer married her to Pompey instead).

It was a senatorial conspiracy to kill Dictator Caesar. Caesar was voted Dictator for life and was basically king of Rome (an idea which Romans found abhorrent). They killed him when they did because Caesar was about to leave for war against Parthia which means that they wouldn't be able to touch him. He would have been gone for years and years but still leader of Rome.

Brutus wasn't the ringleader of the conspiracy but he was the figurehead. He had excellent Patrician blood and his own ancestor was one who deposed the last king of Rome to make the Roman Republic. It was fitting that Brutus was to fit this new king of Rome.

He was not alone. It was a political act. Many senators were with Brutus and shared his actions. Brutus participated to the murder but he was indoctrinated. That doesn't take away his guilt of course...

Brutus wasn`t the only one who killed Ceasar. Most of Roman senators did it. Their purpose was to save senate from growing Ceasar`s power. The more dictatorious Ceasar was the will to get rid of him among Roman noble men was stronger . They couldn`t let him to diminish their power so straight-forward.

super question! one in each of my fav subjects (roman politics) All romans on the time have been petrified of kings....that they were a Republic for subsequently long and didnt desire to alter that. The Senete had already began starting to be corrupt. Caesar, who replaced right into a brilliant Generel and a crafty flesh presser, replaced into waiting to manipualte the equipment and had gotten administration of the army. He replaced into appointed dictator (no longer king, think of powerfull president.) between the perks replaced into he replaced into waiting to appoint contributors of the Senete. After adequate of his people have been in potential, he meant to grow to be King of Rome. He replaced into killed the day the Senete replaced into to announce this. He could have been worth of that potential, yet none of his heirs have been. Augustus Caesar replaced into ok, even though it went right now downhill. i think of they have been precise to kill Caesar, yet they FAILED miserabley. they ought to have made allowance for the potential that had accumulated interior the palms of so few to be unfolded decrease back amoung the various. while Caesar replaced into killed, his potential went to 3. Then they fought amoung themselfs with Augustus prevailing interior the tip.
