For the snobbish vegetarian gentleman, I would recommend any book by Jonathan Franzen.

hehehe I love that "inverted snob" lol, you could always get her a book on vegetarian cooking. Or a world trivia book. Um, is she into fantasy novels like dragons & stuff? Probably not if she is a snob hu. Um, what about a book on her fav music artist? Hmmm, you have me thinking now!!!

Paul Auster may be a good choice. As a music loving veggie bookworm myself I would much prefer a book token so I could pick the book of my choice.

One of Reginald Hill's Dalziel & Pascoe books. Dalziel is the complete antithesis of the classic aristocratic detectives but the novels are very classy..
