As the lead singer and guitarist of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain's musical success began in his twenties and was

heightened when he formed the band Nirvana. Hits such as "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Come as You Are," and "Heart Shaped Box" helped the group achieve international success.

Cobain was born in Aberdeen, WA. Hyperactive as a youngster, he was given Ritalin to help him concentrate in school and sedatives to help him sleep at night. At the age of seven, his parents got divorced. He became so difficult to live with that his parents sent him to live with relatives. This period in his life is reflected in songs such as "Sliver." With a dislike for school, Cobain spent his time painting and singing. He listened to the Beatles and the Monkees, but changed to bands such as Kiss, Black Sabbath, the Sex Pistols, and the Clash in 1979. On his 14th birthday, Cobain bought his first guitar and started experimenting with different musical styles. He also was a roadie for a Seattle group called the Melvins. He dropped out of high school a few weeks before graduation to get a job, but his efforts were unsuccessful because he couldn't hold a job for very long.

In 1986 the group Nirvana was formed with Cobain on vocals and guitar, Krist Novaselic on bass guitar, and various drummers. Their first album, Bleach, was released in 1989. They toured the U.S. and had their first international concert in Newcastle, England. Their second single was unsuccessful, so they changed record companies. After signing with Geffen Records in 1991, and adding permanent drummer Dave Grohl, they produced their second album, Nevermind, which received rave reviews with the hits "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Come as You Are," and "Lithium." Their popularity grew after the group made appearances on MTV's Headbanger's Ball and NBC's Saturday Night Live. The success of the band was intimidating to Cobain, who liked the intimate setting of nightclubs; it was the money that guided them to do concerts and shows in the rock arena. It was in the early '90s that Cobain began doing heavy drugs such as morphine and heroin, but in 1992 his personal life brightened as he married Courtney Love in Hawaii, and their union brought a daughter, Frances Bean. With a wife and daughter, Cobain calmed a bit, and the group released Incesticide.

Things took a turn for the worse in 1993 when Cobain overdosed on heroin. After seeking rehabilitation for a time in a center, he left without completing the program. During this time the band played on. In 1993 they released In Utero, their last studio-recorded album. Nirvana played an MTV unplugged concert and a concert in Munich in 1994. One week after the concert in Munich, Kurt Cobain was hospitalized in a coma. After waking up and leaving voluntarily, he was reported missing and was found three days later in his house, dead of a gunshot wound. As a rock legend, Cobain reached a demise similar to that of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison. The songs and albums of Cobain and Nirvana continue to influence and encourage many young musicians. ~ Kim Summers, All Music Guide

Lead Singer Of Nirvana

Cobain deserves a new investigation because a sufficient one was not conducted in 1994 when his death was ruled a suicide.

On April 8, 1994, Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain was found dead in the greenhouse of his Lake Washington home. Enough heroin was in his blood to kill three people. Beside him on the floor was a 20-gauge shotgun. He'd apparently bitten down on the barrel and pulled the trigger.

To the Seattle police, who were called to the scene, it was suicide--open and shut.

Four cards of latent fingerprints were found on the shotgun taken from the crime scene when it was tested at Washington State laboratory. Tom Grant, Hank Harrison, Ian Halperin, Max Wallace, and a slew of others make the baseless claim that the absence of legible fingerprints on the gun is solid evidence, or at least a strong indication, that the gun was wiped.

It is not at all uncommon for this to happen.

1) the possibility evidence was mishandled could suggest an incompetent investigation and warrant a re-opening of the case; it does not by any means, however, prove someone wiped the gun down.
For example, on the police list of items, the shotgun and shotgun case is listed as one item (#8). This may suggest the shotgun was transported inside its case, which easily could have removed any legible prints on the gun.

2)Nikolas Hartshorne claims in 'Heavier Than Heaven' that he had to pry the gun from Cobain's left hand, as rigor mortis had already set in; another factor that could account for lost prints.

3)the gun wasn't tested until a month after being found - some theorists also use this to claim the police didn't do their job, but it cannot simultaneously be said that legible prints should have been found in light of all of these possibilities. It may also be notable that the gun had been sitting in the greenhouse for three plus days - climate changes, condensation, etc. could be factors.

Speculation is rampant on possible forgery in the note found at the crime scene. Some believe the first line, 'To Boddah', may have been forged. Absolutely nothing has been done to substantiate this, other than the illogical assertion that it doesn't look like the body of the note. Surely Kurt may have written an addressee of the note larger than the rest - and if Kurt was high, on heroin perhaps, this could account for ANY drastic changes in handwriting through if he himself added items at different points in time.

Though I do like Nirvana's music, I guess I'm indifferent about Kurt. I'd rather he hadn't and was still making music, but life does go on, so to speak. I'm glad that Dave soldiered on with Foo Fighters. On a similar note, April 5th is the 4th anniversary of the death of Layne Staley from Alice in Chains. That's one that I do lament. Layne was a great artist with such a unique sound. While I'm happy that AIC is reuniting and touring some this year, I do have reservations about it. It'll just never be the same. Down In A Hole...

Kurt Cobain left a rehab facility in LA, made his way back home to his house in Seattle and took his life with a shot gun. The popular reasoning for his choice to end his life was that he felt suffocated and overwhelmed with his fame and he simply could not handle being a the messiah rock god that people had built him up to be. He was also so destroyed by drug abuse that there is no telling just what was going on in his mind when he hit rock bottom... too bad nobody told him that he could have just broke up Nirvana and walked away... I blame heroin more than anything... his friends, family, and management tried desperately to find Kurt but they were too late to save him from himself. The next time someone records a song called "I hate myself and I want to die", maybe someone will get some help...

he put a shotgun in his mouth and blew out the back of his head in his home in Aberdeen WA.
He was a manic depressive who's only partial release was in his world of music. He became increasingly frustrated with the music industry and once In Utero was completed ,following his stint in rehab, Kurt Cobain was actually quoted as saying that the album was his best work and he felt he had his perfect album which he would never be able to better.
This together with his drug problem sent him deeper into depression and with the belief that his life work (music) was complete, he took his own life.
In my opinion, one of the greatest losses the music industry has had to endure.

The main reason why he killed himself is because he has Bipolar Disorder (The meaning of the song Lithium is about Bipolar disorder) and he killed himself in 1994 by shooting himself in the head with a gun.

He realised that his music was crap and knew he couldn't keep on getting away with it and so wrote Teen Wolf the musical. Unfortunately no one was interested in his musical and he was so consumed by depression that he decided to top himself. His first attempt was to use a carrot to penetrate his brain by sticking it up his nose, but alas this was doomed to failure. He then decided on a bottle of paracetamol, but couldn't get past the child proof lid. In the end he decided on a massive cocktail of illegal substances which were easily at hand due to his huge narcotics problem.
