Absolutely yes! I play both nylon and steel string, acoustic and electric and use only my bare fingers on all of them. The coolest thing about fingerpicking is that you get bass, rhythm and lead guitar all at once from just one instrument!

Yes you can. I find it more easier to play on steel-string acoustic guitars than the classical because the nylon strings are thicker. If you want to play more comfortable, try finding a guitar that has lesser height between the strings and the fretboard.

Check out Fleetwood Mac's Lindsay Buckingham or Dire Straits Mark Knofler.

A group called Kansas has a song that is considered by many ot be one of the greatet songs ever written (Dust In The Wind) and it is ALL fingerpicked (except for the violin solo, of course).

Yes, it's currently called "fingerstyle" and there are many folks who are quite good at it. Check out Doyle Dykes, sometime. He plays a Taylor acoustic.

yes, the strings are just heavier, but if you are a beginner i would say you are quite far from having to worry about finger picking anyway
