Humans and the other apes evolved from a common ancestor. That ancestor split from what we call monkeys some time before that.
www.talkorigins.org has a lot of good information. There is a good article here:

I also second the recomendation of www.becominghuman.org

Because, like humans, the modern monkeys and apes also evolved from earlier monkeys and apes, but clearly not at different rates and in different directions. Why do different species of cat exist? Because they all evolved from earlier primitive cats. Lions did not evolve from tigers, did they?

Humans did not evolve from monkeys and/or apes. Humans and other primates share a common ancestor.

Here's a fun and informative site to learn about how humans evolved:

Please do some research and then, if you have questions, ask them.

Because not all population of early primates had the same random genetic mutations in conjunction with the right environmental stresses. In some area of the world, namely were you find apes and monkeys today, no amount of mutation towards more upright walking or larger brains actually improved survivability.

By the way, God and Evolution are not mutually exclusive concepts.

Not from the strains of monkeys and apes that live now, but we had a common ancestor.

Look at an evolutionary chart, it gives an idea of what may have happened judging by skeletal remains. OR talk with your clergyman who may tell you the world is 12, 000 years old and all the rest is bunk. Your choice.

evolution for creation was disproved when they found a prehistoric skeleton named Lucy who had no tail and walked on two legs. they knew this because their was no tail duh, and when an animal walks on all fours, a certain bone grinds into another on the legs, so examination of the skeleton shows the way the person walked. because the skeleton predated all the scientists estimates, for when humans "should" have started walking upright, they realized that it the time between habitable earth and humans, it was far too short a length for a new species to evolve completely from another (a.k.a. humans from apes) so instead of finding their missing link, they disproved the theory altogether.

NO ONE SAID THE WHOLE SPECIES OF APES EVOLVED INTO HUMANS US HUMANS HAVE EVOOLVED SO MUCH OVER THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND WE HAVE EVOLVED TO ADAPT TO OUR SURROUNDINGS MAYBE CERTAIN GROUPS EVOLVED FASTER THEN OTHERS BECAUSE THEIR HABITAT WAS DIFFRENT BUT ANYWHO EVOLUTION IS REAL AND PROVEN UNLIKE ADAM AND EVE!!
