How is censorship unfair to adults?

To the person above who said that adults need censorship....
HOG WASH! If you are sick enough to do something that you see in a horror flick, for example, then you certainly didn't need to see the movie in order to do so.

Censorship is unfair because it should not be the decision of "the powers that be" whether or not we should watch, or listen to, something. We are our own people, and until our government recognizes this we will never truly be free.

Someone will, no doubt, mention something about children. It is NOT the responsibility of the government or our society to babysit your children. Yes, I know that children find ways to see and hear things. But, regardless of this fact, the responsibility to look after them and raise them falls upon YOU.... NOT US! Furthermore, although I know that children are indeed impressionable, if a child shoots someone, for example, it is NOT due to something that he/she saw on a movie. It is because there is something terribly wrong with the child. Yes, I also know that many children who have committed horrible acts have said that some movie, television show, or song, influenced them into doing so. Why do you think they say this? It isn't because it is true. It is because they KNOW that the adults will believe it and blame the movie/music makers rather than THEM. Children are NOT stupid. I use to be one...and not long ago. I grew up with some of the very same children who would come to school and laugh about all the stupid adults who blamed everyone for what they WANTED TO DO REGARDLESS.

Censorship is dead wrong no matter from what perspective you view it. It robs people of their right to make their own decisions.

Isn't it obvious? Adults have the ability and the right to make up their own minds and make their own decisions. Therefore no overbearing or narrowminded groups should be allowed to make decisions about what those adults are "allowed" to watch, read, listen to, etc. It's also unfair to me that a bunch of lazy, incompetent adults don't want to take the time to watch their kids and would rather use the tv as a babysitter, so I should have to sacrifice what entertains me because of it. No way. You made the decision to not use birth control and pop em out, now you have to raise em.

Because, in addition to what other answerers have said, it's a human-rights violation when governments engage in it. Censorship is a tool that's been used by the most repressive and despotic regimes in world history -- which is no coincidence.

let me put it this way cencorship is wrong and disturbing but then perverts who used special types of things that were being censord in a wrong way (know what im saying) things were made for a reason to express ones true self of tought or gift of art for some jacka$$ to just f stuff up.

Who gets to decide what content is censored?
Maybe kids should be in charge of that.
Then we wouldn't have to have ratings...
