The state will not give you Section 8 to pay towards a mortgage. It is only meant to help those, who have low income to rent a place to stay. If your credit is not that good either, it would be worth getting a house. You will have interest rate that is ridiculous, and honestly it would be hard to find a bank that will finance that. There are many government programs for first time home buyers. You should go to www.hud.gov, and there may be a program that you can qualify for.

Section 8 is not bankruptcy, so that guy is completely off. I lucked out when I got my section 8. the apartment complex I live in had a waiting list when you sign up for an apartment so when my name was called up, I filled out the proper forms and was qualified. You can go to your local HUD office in your town to get the forms and be put on a waiting list ( some range from 2-5 yrs) which can suck. Also ask a Realtor about HUD houses for sale. they are super cheap to acquire and they might need some fixing up but overall you can get them for a fraction of the cost and will be able to say you own your own home. Section 8 is for renting a apartment or house. *least here in Iowa it is* Best of luck!
