2x=8-5 2x=3 x=1.5 Remember to always change the sign when you move one part of the equation to the other side. You want all the knowns on one side and all unknowns on the other. There is another way of doing this, but this works best for me.

this is just a simple algebra...but don't blame me if this answer could be wrong...this is just what i have learned in my past two years studying algebra and this is what i know:

2x + 5=8
2x+5-5=8-5
2x=3
2x/2=3/2
x=3/2 or 1 1/2 or simply 1.5

explanation:
i didn't used transposition to eliminate +5 since, it's an easier way to find out the answer. i just put 5 with its opposite operation symbol to both sides in order to eliminate 5 on the left and to get the final number "x" on the right..but the next thing to find out is that how to get the value of x if there is a numerical coefficient beside it?
we will use again the elimination method we used a while ago.but this time, we will use division 'coz the original operation symbol of 2x is multiplication.we will just simply divide the numbers..cancel out 2 then you already have it!

HOPE THIS'LL HELP YOU!!!

2x+5 -5 = 8-5 ( subtract 5 from both sides)

2x/2= 3/2 (divide both sides by 2)

x= 3/2

2x+5=8.
=2x=8-5.
=2x=3.
=x=2/3.
Therefore x=2/3.
in decimal fraction=1.5.

2x+5=8

Subtract the equation with 5

2x+5+(-5)=8+(-5)

2x=3

Then, divide the equation with 2

2x/2=3/2

x=3/2
