Some Muslims are tolerant, some are intolerant. This can be said of any large group of people. I think the standards for treatment of women are largely cultural rather than religious, and there are probably at least a few people in every nation who consider women as second-class. There are also nations that are NOT predominantly Muslim where women generally have lesser status than men. Historically, this was true of European and North American societies until only a few decades ago.
If I based my understanding of Christianity on the worst behaviors I routinely see in my own predominantly Christian community, I'd think that Christianity called for dangerous driving, gluttony, intolerance, suspicion of others, dishonesty and selfishness. However, I'm sure these behaviors are not representative of the ideals and teachings of Christ.
Like Christianity, Islam is a religion that has a definitive text. I'd prefer to base my opinion of Islam on what the Koran says, rather than on the behavior of any group of people who claim to be Muslim.

Deuteronomy 21:11-14 If you see a pretty woman among the captives then just take her home and “go in unto her.”
Deuteronomy 22:5 Women that wear men’s clothing are an “abomination unto the Lord.”
Deuteronomy 22:13-22 Women, be sure to keep the tokens of your virginity. Otherwise the men of your city may stone you to death. This does not apply to men though, of course. What is interesting to note here is the actual wording, it says : “that if a man hateth his wife he may say she did not have the tokens of her virginity”. Since there is no way a woman can truly prove she had a hymen upon marriage the word rests on the husband and she can be disposed of simply when he tires of her.
Deuteronomy 22:23-24 is one of the most cruel and sexist passages of the Torah. It says that women who are raped and fail to “cry out loud” in a populated area are most likely enjoying the attack should be killed.
Deuteronomy 22:28-29 A rapist must buy his victim from her father for 50 shekels. Is this supposed to be some type of retribution? What about the victim here, what if she doesn’t want to marry a pig who raped her? All that matters is her father receives payment for his “property”.
Deuteronomy 25:11-12 Says that we must cut off a woman’s hand if she touches the “secrets” of a man who is fighting with her husband…“And thine eye shall not pity her.” Once again, there is no punishment for the man she touched, only the woman.
thats what the bible say ....uffffffffffffffffffff
please dont read this in sunday prayers ..
there is much much more in the bible...or word of son of father or son of God..and holy spirit and

First of all, you went to ONE place that is Muslim and you decided to generalize based on that experience. Did you ever wonder if you were treated poorly because perhaps you did something that could have been perceived as disrespectful? You never described what it is or how you were treated to make you feel like you were a second class citizen, so it is difficult to make an opinion of even agreement. It is pretty irritating when people generalize others based on their experience ONCE and they return to say that ALL are like this.
I am American, married to a Muslim. When I visited his country, I was never treated like a second class citizen. Sure, I walked around with him next to me but even his friends and others we met were respectful, as I was to them. I would say the women of that country weren't necessarily friendly with open arms and smiling when I looked at them but still, I was not treated as a second class citizen. I figured because I was "different" - not an African, which is what is intermingled there, but as an American.
When you visit other countries, learn about that culture before you go in their with a "Queenly" attitude and expect them to bow at your feet. You won't even get that here in America. Kuwait is nowhere close to the political arena of the country I visited, so it was/is highly volatile with mixed feelings about Americans - you should know that. And as someone else said, don't mix up what is religious in a country to what is just plain ignorance of others. Its their country - they can do as they please to visitors.

that is unlucky that you've witnessed such issues. besides the undeniable fact that the ingredient is, those movements are to this point from Islam. As a Muslim woman i can say it provides me rights, in truth extra rights than this society does with that is difficulty-loose degradation of ladies people. Islam teaches that adult adult males and females everybody is diverse, yet equivalent. regrettably some Muslims extremely do not recognize/pick now to not keep in mind that and they assume that the adult adult males are infinitely better. by their movements it will be complicated for outsiders to trust that this isn't Islam in any respect, yet it really is the truth.

I lived in the middle east for 2 years; including Kuwait. It doesn't matter what color of female you are....you're second class.
Besides, no one should ever go to the middle east believing that their culture in any more tolerant of any other. Especially if you are an American.
