Dont panic! If you have DSL or Cable Internet you can just disconnect and reconnect to get a new IP, that way if you are worried about being hacked, they wont know which IP you are using anymore. Also, IP addresses in general cannot be traced more specifically than the neighborhood level, so it doesnt trace straight to your house. Someone would need more information on you to make it mean something.

If someone you don't trust gets a hold of your IP address, there's the potential they could hack into your computer.

I asked that once, and someone told me there is no way they can get it through yahoo answers, but who knows. To retrace you and see where you live and get personal info. Maybe you want to ask it in a different category too. Like computers?

This happened to my best friend. They used it as a relay to try to break into national security computers. Luckily, they figured out, that though it was made to appear as if the breach attempt was made from his computer, it was, in fact, a relay. So, he didn't get into any trouble.
