Let's say Company A owns Company B and C.

Company A is the "parent company" to B and C.
Company B and C are "sister companies"
Company B and C are "subsidiaries" of Company A

Company A and Company D both own Company E

Company E is a joint venture.

Company D owns company E, F, G, H & I.

Company D is a holding company if it doesn't do anything substantial other than act as an ownership vehicle.

Company J owns between 20-49% of Company K.
Company K is an "associate" of Company J
