Generally, tragus piercings run a little more painful and longer to heal than regular cartilege piercings. It's a thicker spot to poke through, so more nerves affected as well as more surface area to heal. The soreness will last about the same length of time as your cartilege, though can be a bit longer. It's easier to aggravate, though, particularly using the phone. Also, as mentioned previously, make sure it's not done too close to the edge as it can be prone to migrating out.

I don't know if the tragus hurts more than the cartilage, because I don't have a cartilage...However, I do know that it is more prone to infection that most other piercings... I've had both my tragus done for about 3 months now, and, well they have been infected for about two months. I've never had so much trouble heeling a damn piercing :p For the soreness, well I was able to sleep on both ears the first night, without any hurting or anything... But I suppose it really depends on the person. Just be careful when you pick up a phone or somthing and bash it on your freshly pierced ear O_O yeah...ouch. Oh, and if you have friends with slapping tendencies, invite them to slap the other side of your face. Good luck.

I had my tragus pierced for awhile. Yes it does hurt more than the cartilage. I've had my cartilage, nose, lebrae and tragus, the tragus hurt the worst by far. You can actually hear the crunch when they go through it. It's alot thicker there than the cartilage. Also the Tragus is a difficult one to heal. Gets infected really easily. I loved having my tragus pierced, I think it's really cute and the initial pain is quick. You'll be in pain for quite awhile because of how long it takes to heal, but in my opinion it's worth it. You have to make sure you turn it and clean it ALL OF THE TIME. It gets crusty and tight within hours of you cleaning it, so clean and turn, clean and turn, clean and turn. Also be very specific when getting it done. Tell the person piercing you to make sure not to put the piercing to shallow. The body sometimes trys rejecting the tragus and like mine it eventually became to shallow after about six months because of my body trying to heal it. So if they put it in farther away from the outside of the tragus hopefully this won't happen.
Hope this helps.
P.S. Don't get all worried about the pain, It is definitely worth it. The tragus piercing is sooo cute.
