I went to the doctors and I'm going back for a complete physical. She recommended that I get an ultrasound done, what could this be for? Is she looking for something specific, or are there many reasons why she wants me to have that done?

I've been having some feminine issues for the past while - heavy periods, blood between periods and constant pain throughout the month, not just during ovulation and my period. I've also been loosing lots of hair.

Ultrasound is done out of many reasons. As long as you are going through a complete check up, such ultrasound will be done to see what is going on in there inside you - to assess your body parts which cannot just be assessed by any method of examinations. The doctor will look at your body system parts such as uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, kidney, bladders, ureters.

I am not sure of what your real condition is but I suggest there maybe some things the doctor wants to clarify - perhaps the doctor noted some doubtful or suspicious clues which need to be verified by ultrasound.♥

I am just starting week 14 and so far I believe I have had four ultrasounds. The first was around week 6 - my very first appointment - the doc wanted to check to see if he could see a heartbeat. Number two was at 8 weeks 5 days - that's when they did a measurement and officially said how far along i was and gave a due date. Number 3 was at 12 weeks 2 days - for the first trimester screening. Number 4 was today (14 weeks) - when the doc couldn't hear the heartbeat through the doppler - so we did an ultrasound and then he could see it. Somehow I doubt that I am finished with the ultrasounds. I kind of enjoy them - because I like seeing the baby's progress. Good luck!!

There are many diagnostic reasons for an ultrasound from its use in obstetrics to finding the dime a child has swallowed. Dont worry it doesnt hurt and the doctor could well be doing a process called ruling out. So by checking he can rule out this disease or problem and once he know what it isnt its easier to find out what it is.

Your doctor may be looking for specific problems like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom (PCOS) or even something as minor as a twisted muscle.
All an ultrasound does is shoots sound waves through some gel (typicaly K-Y) to veiw inside of you.
If you feel like your having more specific symptoms, discuss them with your doctor.

With your symptoms of pain, they might be looking for evidence of endometriosis. That's a condition where the tissue that builds up in advance of your period is building up not just in your uterus but other parts of your body. It's not dangerous unless you have a very extreme case, but it can hurt. That's just one of many things that they may be looking for. They might also just want to get a normal image of your body to compare against future readings. I wouldn't worry. The procedure is painless. Just ask them why they want to do it.

in your case it may be for checkin for the presence of any uterine, ovarian,or vaginal cysts or tumours. even ectopic pregnancy ie preg sumwhere other than the uterus can be a cause of the sypmtoms u show. also endometriosis or uterine infections, tuberculosis etc. 4 all these thngs a USG is necessary.
