If the book is very interesting I can complete it in 24 hours but usually I read about 4 a month or around 45 a year, but I love to read non-fiction. I have an extensive collection of books with the majority being non-fiction.

I prefer non-fiction to fiction books, but don't read any in their entirety--I just read passages in a few chapters; the chapters I think will contain information of interest to me. They usually don't measure up to my expectations.

Consequently, I've learned not to trust authors. My experience has been that they just don't deliver what they promise in the table of contents. I'm the kind of guy who goes to a book store (when lured by an advertisement about a non-fiction best seller), picks out the book, checks out the table of contents, browses some of the chapters, then puts the book back on the shelf disappointed.

My favorites are text books. They sometimes don't deliver everything they promise, but they always deliver more than other types of books.
