Ok. I'm fourteen years old, African-American (I guess), and live in Chicago Illinois, in an area with some gang violence, drug dealing, etc. Sometimes I just can't stand living this low life, living around rude people (not saying it's their fault tohugh). People always tell me that I'm smart, loveable, etc, whatever. I just want to get out of this shell called life (keeping GOD and JESUS of course, freinds, etc). So are there any programs, activities, etc, that would give me an upper class exposure? I would really like to see how these people live, and even make some new friends. So if you can help I'm really grateful. Thanks.

For now you could get a retail job at an upscale department store like Macy's or Nordstrom's.

When you're older (like when you go to college) there's a program called INROADS that focuses on preparing minority students for jobs in a corporate setting. They have workshops and seminars that you go to and you interview for internships in corporate settings.

wow, you're only 14 years old and you already know you want something better for yourself! good for you!

how about getting a job in a better part of the city? that would expose you to other ways of living. you could work in a nice clothing store, or a nice restaurant or something.

Try, a Boys Club they will help. I am sure your city has one. Try contacting the YMCA as well. Big Brothers organization is also a good one.
