When the Yankees got Abreu, that told Sheffield they did not want him anymore. And it was obvious Sheffield was not too happy about it, so it was better to part with him, and they basically gave him a choice as to where to end up.
It was a smart move picking up his option to trade him because it prevented anyone in the AL East (Red Sox) from signing him as a free agent, and they got 3 pitching prospects in return. The Yankees do not care about the money cost, the player cost they do.
It stopped an opponent from getting better, and they got some pithcing prospects (yankees don't have many - prospects get traded away from the yankees recently 4 to the phillies for Abreu and Lidle)
Bubba Crosby is not and should not be in the Yankees long term plans, at the moment, they have better, younger players to fill the role as backup, Crosby will never start in NY. It is better for the Yankees, and for Crosby that he get traded.
These were two good moves by the Yankees, that benefited both the team and the players involved, which is always good to see.

Sure anybody in New York is replaceable. Bubba Crosby went
to the Cincinnati Reds but it wasn't a trade. I don't know why the
Tigers wanted Gary Sheffield. They already have a great outfield
in Craig Monroe, Curtis Granderson & Magglio Ordonez. So the
Yankees got 3 pitchers for the future and if just one of them turns
out to be a Yankee then they made out.

It replaced right into a robust flow for the two communities. The Tigers (i'm a fan) had to provide up some possibilities, yet did no longer provide up something extremely particular. Sanchez is a robust prospect if he can stay healthful, yet we've already got too many starters. We had extra desirable than adequate palms interior the majors and minors to make this commerce. what's needed is that we did no longer ought to deliver away any considerable league skills to make this commerce take place. Tigers desperately mandatory a huge bat and that they have been given it in Sheff. even nevertheless Sheff is previous and bitchy, i think of he will upload that offensive spark we want interior the direction of the order. the obtrusive risk is he ought to get harm, however the pitchers that we gave up have an identical risk. the two communities crammed holes with this commerce and that i think of the two will benefit. Plus i replaced into overjoyed that we've been given a freelance extension so we weren't in elementary terms getting him for a million 12 months.

Yes Sheffield was an expensive surplus and bubba is extra now that the yankees have three fast and good defensive outfielders in abreau damon and cabrera and have Matsui as well one of many good moves you will see.

they definaetly did. Sheffield has proven that he can be a huge distraction when not happy. Which he would not have been had he stayed. On the other hand the plan for picking up his option was for him not to hit the free agent market where he would be free to the highest bidder(Red Sox)

I agree w/Kevo. We needed that middle of the order guy and the only stud pitcher we gave up was Sanchez and he still won't be totally major league ready in 2007. OK, maybe he will but it remains to be seen. We got the power bat we needed to put next to Ordonez and kept the pitching staff and the core of the club in place.

I'm no expert, but here in Detroit, all the radio guys are saying it's a win/win for NY, cuz Sheff wanted to leave anyway. As far as for the Tigers, they say we'll have to wait and see. The one pitching prospect we gave you guys is supposed to be a stud, AND he's from the Bronx.

In my book, yes.
the pitchers The Tigers gave you really aren't as good as Dombrowski is letting on. The Tigers stiffed the yankees big time, and I love it!
