A peer-to-peer (or P2P) computer network is a network that relies primarily on the computing power and bandwidth of the participants in the network rather than concentrating it in a relatively low number of servers. P2P networks are typically used for connecting nodes via largely ad hoc connections. Such networks are useful for many purposes. Sharing content files (see file sharing) containing audio, video, data or anything in digital format is very common, and realtime data, such as telephony traffic, is also passed using P2P technology.

A pure peer-to-peer network does not have the notion of clients or servers, but only equal peer nodes that simultaneously function as both "clients" and "servers" to the other nodes on the network. This model of network arrangement differs from the client-server model where communication is usually to and from a central server. A typical example for a non peer-to-peer file transfer is an FTP server where the client and server programs are quite distinct, and the clients initiate the download/uploads and the servers react to and satisfy these requests.

In a peer environment, there are no centralized servers with security databases or that can provide typical security services such as authentication and authorization. For example, in an Active Directory domain, domain controllers provide authentication services using Kerberos. In a serverless peer environment, the peers must provide their own authentication.

For Windows Peer-to-Peer Networking, authentication is provided using self-signed certificates

Peer-to-peer networking allows the distribution of text, audio, and video and software product updates Peer-to-peer networking can allow for the dissemination of text-based information in the form of files or messages to a large group of users.

Hello dear friend.
it's peer-to-peer networking
there are 2 common ways to implement a network
the first one if use a server and the other computers connect to it. we call this network a server based network or a domain
but the second way is to use no server and each computer authenticate users by own . it's a peer-to-peer network and all computers are in the same level . we call it a peer-to-peer network or work group.

In a more general sense than certain programs for disseminating illegal media, peer-to-peer is a networking model that is "flat" instead of hierarchical. Peer-to-peer networks don't rely on central servers to mediate communications. Rather, as long as a network routing path is open, you will be able to communicate with other computers on the network.

Pear to pear. I would say two pears making out. You mean peer to peer? That is like Kazaa and DC++ etc. where a computer can share its files with other computers on the internet.

I think you mean "peer-to-peer networking." It's essentially just a way for you to share stuff like videos and music and whatnot with others like with LimeWire, mIRC, or bittorrent clients. There are advantages and disadvantages to this. The biggest disadvantage for me is that sometimes, what I want to download isn't very current or popular, so not many people can share with me because they don't have it. Thus, it takes a long time to download or it doesn't download at all. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer-to-peer for more info.

Its "peer to peer" just FYI and its just coworker to coworker or employee to employee networking - equal mentoring from individuals on the same general level of whatever field or experienceit is they are working in.

hi,
i think u mean peer-to-peer networking.
so p2p is one in which u don't find servers, but there will be end to end communication b/n 2 systems. they can just communicate or share resources among them. a communication path will be established b/n them.

:) it's peer to peer networking.
wherein you one can share files from their PCs to another via net. you can use limewire, kazaa, bearshare among others for this.
