Requirements for a happy family. I would say first love. Love between husband and wife will flow outward to include children and of course all other members of the family. Second would be respect not only husband to wife but respect for your children and parents and siblings. Third the ability to listen because if you really listen you will avoid many arguments and misunderstandings. Fourth the ability to argue without demeaning the other person and this is hard to do and must be practiced. There are many other things that go into a good relationship but I think these are the most important. Most of them center around the husband and wife because if they are happy with each other and with their marriage then the people around them will be happy too.

Patience, hugs & kisses, telling your spouse & children that you love them often, treating your children with respect, praising often & critizing as little as possible, pick your battles (like don't worry about weird hairstyles) wait for the real biggies, teaching manners & requiring everyone to use them with each other - for some reason people don't think manners are needed with family matters - but good manners is a sign respect. Never call anyone names or swear at them or tell them their stupid, etc.

Simply understanding and care for each other. Take your spouse as your colleague and friend. If you love someone you will like to do best for him. So love is most important element in a family. Instead of looking for what he/she dislikes, find out what one likes and life is full of excitement and love.
