As with most European countries education of women was typically limited to the elite, the wealthy and the specially chosen. This was particularly true during the time period you ask about due to the Third Reich's emphasis on propagating and propagandizing the "master race". So any woman (or man) that showed a spark of intelligence above the average German was given the opportunity to attend and excel in educational, artistic and athletic pursuits.

I wish where I could recall where I read it, but Germany was touted as having the highest percentage of women medical doctors in the world at that time.
