It is probably safe - but the best way to check is to phone a specialist women's and children's pharmacist- they are usually found working at maternity hospitals and can give you every bit of medication information relating to pregnancy that you could want including the most recent medical research. I don't know what country you are in from your question, but in Australia - The Adelaide women's and children's hospital drug line is - 08 81617222. (They are amazingly helpful)

I think taking a pain pill every once in awhile shouldnt hurt. I am 37 weeks now, and there are times where I had to take something different than tylenol. If I didn't hard telling what I would of done with myself. I think it is ok. Just don't do it everyday of course. But also, start getting massages. They help tremendously. I mean they work. You will not get no more headaches. Well, you will but nothing like the ones you get now. I get a massage once or twice a week, even if its only for a half an hour, and they have helped me a lot. I feel better this pregnancy than I did with my first, because I didn't do all the stuff I am doing with this one. But take those every once in awhile, and start getting massages. Your husband can do them, but therapist know the certain pressure points to rub. Good luck to you..

I suffer from migraine headaches and am trying to conceive therefore this same question has crossed my mind too. I have worked in a pharmacy for app. 6 years and I have learned there that it is ok to take ibuprofen during pregnancy but as you said sparingly. Up to 200 mg. is a completely safe dosage. Also, I have found that drinking electrolyte drinks such as gatorade or powerade helps my migraines so you may try that also as a completely safe alternative.

I was told and have read NOT to take anything but Tylenol during a pregnancy not mater what trimester a woman is in. I am 22 weeks and I wouldn't if I was in your position. I would go to a gas station or 24 hour drug store and get some Tylenol.

this is the information on http://www.safefetus.com
Ibuprofen
Indication
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory.
Fetal Risk
No adequate human data in 1st trimester exposure but reported doubtful association with some congenital anomalies (anencephaly, cerebral palsy, microphthalmia, nasal cleft, and tooth staining) and fetal death.
Use of the drug in 3rd trimester causes constriction of ductus arteriosus with subsequent pulmonary hypertension and oligohydramnios by affecting fetal renal function.
Inhibits labor, prolongs pregnancy
because you are still in your first trimester, I would say skip it and send the hubby for some Tylenol
also note there was a big recall two days ago on Acetaminophen, but the Tylenol brand name was not among the recalls, it was only store brands that were pulled off the shelves http://coldflu.about.com/b/a/000035.htm

Call a Doctor.
Does the pill bottle say, "If you have any questions, consult The Internet?" Of course it doesn't. It says, "Consult a physician." And guess what. That little bottle is right. Doctors are REALLY smart. They have a doctorate for a reason. They know WAY more than the collective mind of The Internet does, about whether or not to take Motrin when you're pregnant.
So get off your computer and call your OB/GYN and ask him/her. If you were too stupid to get prenatal care, and don't have an OB/GYN, call the hospital and ask someone there.
I certainly hope your kid has more common sense than you do.

I know that in the fisrt trimester everything isbad, I was almost two months when i took tylenol and i had a miscarriage. i don't know for shure if that was the reason but I will never take anything again. I'll take the physical pain, but not the emotional pain of another miscarriage.

I actually had a doctor tell me to take 800mg. I called for stomach pains, and he told me it would be OK. I surely would not recommend this dosage, however I would say a small dosage would be fine. However, the BEST thing to do is call your doctor. If you need something immediately, your doc should have a line that you can call 24/7 just for things like this.

My ob said there is nothing else that is safe while you are pregnant other than tylenol, I don't recommend taking anything but tylenol, BUT if you can't handle the pain, call your ob's office they usually have a paging system, and they will call you ASAP, I know it was a life saver for me :)

My OB said to ONLY use Tylenol!!! Ibuprofen (Motrin) has been linked to pregnancy problems throughout pregnancy (although rare) just do not take that risk, go to a 24 hour pharmacy & buy tylenol (reg strenght only)
