He got George W. Bush elected to the Presidency of the United States twice.
I liken that to winning the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness with a plow horse.
I hate him but he is very effective.

I really dislike Karl Rove but I don't think you can call him overrated. You have to credit him with unifying the Republican party under a couple of key themes (security, tax cuts, etc) as well as forming and implementing a grass rotes movement. States, especially in the south and midewest, that routinely went to Clinton in the early and mid 90's, began voting Republican in both national and local elections. It wasn't until Iraq became such a mess, which is more to do with Bush's policy than anything Rove did or didn't do as a campaign manager, that Democrats were allowed to win back seats they had lost when he took over.

Rove will be blamed for the latest defeat by many. I personally detest his style of pitting people against each other in a most cynical and dastardly way, butt one must never forget his success in getting Bush to power both in Texas and now the White House. I',m sure there will be others in the future who will wish to take the low road to success, so Rove will have more work if he wants it.

i'm not sure if he is overrated, but as bush's advisor, i feel that he blew it by not forcing rumsfeld to resign a month before the elections, i think the republicans lost a lot of potential votes by bush's statement of "rumsfeld will be with me until the end of my term" plenty of people, military and republicans included were not in favor of rumsfeld staying on as secretary of defense...i just can't help but wonder if the results would not have been different if they had dumped him a month before and not the day after election day. just my opinion.. so, yes, i think karl rove is overrated,,

I compltely disagree with Karl Rove and I thinky he duped The Evangelical right as well as Reverend Haggerty duped his congregation.
I think there is nothing he will not do to win and love Smear and Fear politics...However...He is as good as anyone ever at winning elections . I respect his ability to win ,,,however...I think ofcourse...He is a jerk...I hate the player not the game....

He crafted a strategy that worked in the short-term (i.e. - run to the far right, and then fear-monger the middle into voting for you as well). Unfortunately for him, people got tired of being told by their government that they needed to be afraid all of the time. The government is supposed to lead, not terrify. And since the GOP has nothing else to offer the average American voter, they got creamed, and I think we'll see them get creamed again in 2008.
