One has to consider what is patriotism. Patriotism is NOT blindly following the current incumbent government, whichever political side of the fence that happens to be.
Patriotism is truly loving one's country, but that should not be unquestioningly (although that is included in the dictionary definition). Sometimes the BEST thing for the country is to question what is, or is not, happening.
The documentary "Bowling for Columbine" was seen by many as anti-American, yet it is one of the most patriotic pieces of journalism I have seen. It faces some TRUTHS that many would rather see hidden.
In my view a true patriot fights for a BETTER country from within.
Anyone BLINDLY following ANY president simply because they are the president deserves to live in a dictatorship, not a democracy!

Alex B Phd - About me: That's it. You won't see me on here much anymore. These sickos hate America too much, I don't want to talk with them, associate with them, or have anything to do with them. They hate our president, they hate our country, and they hate anyone who tries to support our leader, like him or not. Its disgusting, and I've seen too much of this crap. I hope to my God that this is not a reliable sample of the American public, because if it is, then I know for a fact that our country is doomed, and I might as well sit back and watch it happen.
You have a very lost view of the founding principles of this country. So here is a quote for you by a Republican President that you should consider.......
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."
- Teddy Roosevelt
and a quote from one of our founding fathers..........
"I am... against all violations of the Constitution to silence by force and not by reason the complaints or criticisms, just or unjust, of our citizens against the conduct of their agents." --Thomas Jefferson to Elbridge Gerry, 1799. ME 10:78
So if you feel this country is going in the wrong direction, as a citizen, you have the right to be involved and not just "sit back" pompously and narcissistic like you know "all" the answers and everyone else is wrong. Grow Up!

Cause he's the president. He represents us in the international community. And since patriotism means having national pride, everyone thinks that we must support our leader.
People need to start realizing that politicians come and go. Some are good and some are bad. They're no reason to hate your country.
As dstr said above, Bush is not America--America is not Bush.
I will only support the president if i think he deserves my support.

Because Bush holds the title of president of the United States, and many equate patriotism with support for our nation's leader. I don't however. I will glady support a leader who I feel has proven qualified and responsible in the position. I'm not one of those who feel that we as Americans should support our president regardless of his policies, just because he holds the title.

Patriotism=Republican Dumping.
A year or so ago if you criticized the war in Iraq people would call you a traitor and demand your execution for treason.
That has changed.
The Bush administration LIED about WMD's in IRAQ.
And the Bush adminstration LIED about IRAQs involvement in 911.
But there are still people out there who, for some unknown reason, are still chanting "stay the course" or "cut and run" or "there are great things happening in Iraq ony the liberal media doesn't report them."
"Things are progressing smooothly in IRAQ".
LIES LIES LIES
When Rumsfeld resigned a sigh of relief was heard within ten mile radius of PENTAGON.
And a sigh of relief was heard when Democrats took over Congress and Senate.
Maybe the people who chant the previously mentioned blurbs should start thier own party.
the BLURBOCRATS.
or
the REBLURBICANS

I think Patriotism has zero to do with Partisanship. Patriotism is subjective to each individual and cannot be interpreted by others. If you love your country, regardless of who is running it, you are Patriotic; If you respect the flag ane the law. Who am I to question the patriotism of politicians who run fowl of the consituton; who attempt to silence the people, who barricade themselves into isolation and to the exclusion of others...who am I??
I am a liberal, a patriot;
I support the troops and abhor the war;
I believe in equal rights for gays and lesbians;
I AM patriotic, BECAUSE I BELIEVE I AM

I never hated Clinton. I may not have liked his policies, but I never hated the man, I respected his presidency, and respected people that supported him.
Hell, people don't do any of that for Bush nowdays. He's our president too, you know

Because whenever anyone questioned Bush's policies in Iraq, or his fiscal red ink, or any of his hundreds of other glaring policy disasters, we'd have to hear from "patriots" such as yourself that we were unamerican, terrorist-lovers who hated America.
