I do not know of Dimebag Darell, but when anyone dies, it is sad. With that being said, death is a necessity of life.
I found my father dead in his bathroom a few years ago. Death cannot be avoided.

Without a doubt: John Lennon. Zerorepeat has a good answer, though I liked much of Lennon's stuff with and without the Beatles. I can ask right now, "who the hell is Dimebag Darrell?" because I truly don't know. In another 10 years, people will still be affected by John Lennon. In another 2 years no one will even ask about Dimebag!

I'll be honest: I don't particularly like either artist. But Lennon's death touched me more because it was unexpected, tragic, and has had an impact on the others in the band even though it was largely over. Further, Lennon's influence on modern music was greater. So it's only logical to assume that, at least to me, Lennon's death meant more to me.

definitely John Lennon. John Lennon was a true hero to all. He epitomized the personality and quality of life everyone should be so fortunate to have. He was a remarkable person and did a lot for humanity. He was talented, as well as caring and kind. I wish we had a lot more of him!
