This Spring. I plan to fly to
Guadalajara, Mexico and take a bus to San Luis Potosi. My father was born there, and I want to do some geneology research. Any tips about the method of travel or preparation.

Mexico has an extensive well run bus system. The length of the trip is 4:45. The most comfortable buses on that route are run by ETN. When taking a taxi to the bus station, be sure to let them know you are taking a ETN bus.

Bus schedules use military time. Departs on ETN to SLP are at 00:15 06:30 07:30 09:30 11:30 13:30 15:30 17:30 18:30 19:30 21:30

Central San Luis is very pleasant. It includes a large pedstrian only zone. There are a number of pleasant plazas. The tourist office is next to the the cathedral.

I especially like Plaza San Francisco.

Late spring is the hottest time of the year in the central highlands. Use http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/76539.html to get info. With a little bit of searching you'll find that you are able to have the site give you a prediction for your dates of travel, based on the town's climate hidstory.

I took a toll this summer to San Luis Patois. I can't remember when the toll road started, but I know it wasn't from Mexico City. It cost us about $18 U.S. dollars. The road was super long. People were driving very fast and dangerously through the hills (whats new?!). The road was nice though and I notice emergency phones like every mile. I know its not exactly what you wanted, but it may help.
