You will get a serious infection and die if it is not removed. But they always check to make sure it's out and they catch things like this early, and they'll tell you a million times to go to the doctor or hospital if you get a fever, so there isn't much risk. In the worst case scenario, you will have to have a D&C.

well...it does happen. This is really not a great question to be asking before you have a baby!
Sometimes the placent just will not come out. will not seperate. The doctor can then put his or her hand inside the uterus and sort of help scrape it out. And sometimes this doesn't even work and they have to take your to surgery and do an d&c, and essentially suck the placental tissue out.
Sometimes the placenta has an extra lobe. It appears that it has delivered completely, but the mom will have dysfunctional bleeding afterward. They'll massage the uterus and eventually it will come out. And of course, there's still the d&c possibility with that too. and this can happen immediately after birth, or rarely, after going home.
retained placenta doesn't happen very often, so don't worry about it. Focus on getting your healthy baby here safely.

Well I 've had this happen to myself and since I had Major scaring from a previous operation, my placenta got stuck and they had to do and immediate D and C. It was super scary but also very necessary to get it out and trust me they will not leave behind any of the placenta. Otherwise you'd be rotting on the inside. I'm all fine now but I had to stay a few extra day's in the hospital to make sure that I was OK.Now I'm 12w pregger with my second child. So don't worry the Doc's do make sure that they remove anything unnecessary that would otherwise harm your body. good luck & take care.

I had that happen with the birth of my 3 son. His placenta attached where one of my other children attached. It makes it harder for you to deliver the placenta when it has attached where another baby has in the past. They did not catch the fact that I had some left inside me. I continued to bleed from Oct. to Dec. then they finally did an ultrasound because I kept telling them something was not right. When they did the ultrasound they found it stuck inside and they had to do an in/out procedure at the hospital to remove it.

SPOILERS 1. Bella has to choose between Jacob and Edward and chooses Edward, although it breaks her heart. 2. Bella and Edward get married. 3. Bella gets pregnant. 4. Bella has the half-vampire baby and gets turned into a vampire to save her life from the delivery. 5. Jacob imprints on the baby (her name is Renesmee). 6. The Volturi don't know if the baby can be controlled and learn to stay conspicuous, so they come to kill her. 7. The Cullins form a big bunch of people to witness that the child is not harmful for when the Volturi come. 8. They find another person that is a half-vampire (he is 150 years old and stopped aging when he reached full growth at about 7 years old). 9. This convinces the Volturi that Renesmee is safe. 10. Everything turns out hunky-dorey. Voila.

If there are any pieces of placenta left inside of you they will go and retrieve them. Simply because you can get an infection. It is so rare though. Even if part of the placenta breaks off, your body contracts after the birth and generally expels it quite quickly.

funny that you ask, I just asked my doctor this, her answer was that right after you deliver your baby they give you a shot in your upper leg to keep your contractions going, ones the placenta is out they do a proper check if it is complete, if not the doctor will scrape it out of you and if that does not work you get a DC. I dont know where you are from, but I know that in Holland they pay extra attention to the delivery of the placenta as it is the number one cause for post delivery infections.

One of 3 things according to my OB, your body will continue to contrcat thus dispercing the retained placenta, hemmerage, or pain & infection the lat 2 usually require a D&C to be preformed

my mother had this happen to her and she started to hemorrage so if a piece of the placenta is still inside you and doesnt come out by itself they would probably do a procedure called a D and C where they dillate your cervix and take a scraper and scrape out the rest of it.
