The North of India is covered by the land mass from Gujarat, Himalayas to Bengal
The western part is covered with the Arabian Sea, the south by the Indian Ocean and the East by the Bay of Bengal.
Land on north and water on all remaining 3 sides makes India the ideal peninsula
For the above reason the Indian Railway network was formerly known as the Indian Peninsular Railways

India is not surrounded by water on three sides (all those who said "Look at the map" should look at the map) but on two. So it's not really a peninsula (an almost island) but a vast promontory into the sea.
Because it sticks out so far into the ocean, it's convenient, though technically inaccurate, to call it a peninsula.
For comparison look at the Arabian Peninsula, to the west of India, and the Malay Peninsula, to the east. These are true peninsulas (peninsulae if you want to be academic).

This is a good question (apart from the spelling)
India is not a true peninsula which is a mass of land nearly surrounded totally by water apart from a narrow land connection (or in rare cases two land connectons
In the case of India it is surrounded by water on the south and east and west and by the Himalaya mountain range on the north with a relatively narrow flat land connection in the extreme east in Bangladash and another in the west in Pakistan
Hence India is a pseudo peninsula
By the way peninsula means almost island

As many stated here, any land that is covered 3 sides by water will be called penninsula.
India is covered west by Arabic sea, east by Bay of Bengal and south by Indian Ocean.
The north of India is connected to neiboring countries like Tibet, Pakistan, Nepal, Burma, Banglades and china. Also the Mt. Everest stands as guard or a wall for India in the north.

A peninsula is a strip of land connected to an isthmus, and if you look at India on a map, you see that India is a strip of land connected to Middle east Asia.
