Common wisdom today is that 20 gallons is to small for a beginning marine tank keeper. You can't keep many marine fish in a small tank, marine fish have much different needs than the same amount of freshwater fish. Also, marine tanks are expensive and I can tell you from experience that keeping a 55 gallon will cost you about the same as a 20 gallon. I have a 125 gallon marine tank and I have 6 fish in it. At also cost me over 4000 dollars for everything needed to do it right. I know people will say I am nuts but to that I say I have been successfully keeping fish for 40 years. Sure you can do it half way, but you'll pay in the end.

I don't know...20 gallons is a little small for salt water and saltwater is soo much work...with a smaller tank your water conditions change much more rapidly and they're harder to control.

relies upon on what form of fish you have. distinctive fish are bought as freshwater, yet they require brackish water. distinctive brackish water fish could be transferred to finished saltwater. in case you have any of those, you are able to convert them by ability of including 2 tablespoons of marine salt till you attain the mandatory salinity. do away with the different fish that won't be able to. you apart from would would desire to alter the substrate to aragonite or dolomite sand. additionally, you should upload a sprint overwhelmed coral to assist buffer the pH. you should additionally do away with ALL steel in the tank, for the salt will eat away at it. I additionally advise a greater tank.
