i did verify it is in that directory

I tested and it didn't work for me on that site. I downloaded this http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashplayer9_update/FP9_plugin_beta_101806.tar.gz.

Now do these commands from the command line or Terminal:

cd /home/YOURUSERNAME/Desktop (or wherever the file downloaded to)

gunzip FP9_plugin_beta_101806.tar.gz

tar -xvf FP9_plugin_beta_101806.tar

cd flash-player-plugin-9.0.21.55

sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/

then close Firefox, wait about 15-seconds, then restart Firefox. This all worked for me.
