The catcher must wear a catcher's mitt. There is no size restriction.

"Each fielder, other than the first baseman and the catcher may wear a glove not more than 12 inches long nor more than 7-3/4 inches wide, measured from the base of the thumb crotch to the outer edge of the glove." (1.14)

The first baseman's glove may be up to 8 inches wide.

As far as i know there is no size limit. you do however want to have a different size glove for different positions. for examlpe you want a shorter glove if you are playing anywhere in teh infield except 1st base (it has its own special glove) and if you are playing in the outfield you want a longer glove so that you can reach farther and have more open area to catch teh ball. take you child and have him try on a few different sizes, if he is just starting to play a big glove my be a good idea so he can get used to catching however he may have a difficult time adjusting to a smaller glove. it really comes down to however the comfort of the player using the golve.
