Some people call Sacha Baron Cohen, who plays him, the new Peter Sellars.
He is undoubtedly gifted at creating charming characters who gain the confidence of the people he is speaking to. Some of his Ali G interviews were very clever and funny.
First of all there was the joke 'Is it because I is black?' when Sacha Baron Cohen isn't black. Ali G subverted the idea that people that dress like him are all very urban, violent trouble makers- Ali G was actually very charming, naive and schoolboyish and (I think) lived at home with his mum.
Then he mildly exploited the way that some liberal people will excuse certain types of behaviour from certain sections of society whereas, when he was speaking to conservative people, he would try to encourage them in to saying very right-wing things. So Ali G poked fun at everybody including himself, though quite a few people he spoke to were actually thoughtful enough not to agree with everything he said.
Borat is quite often a charming character. As some of the people featured in his film have since said, they did not agree with all of the views that Borat was expressing but, out of politeness to someone learning English and from another culture, they did not put him right about everything. The fact that he did some controversial songs in the 'bible belt' of America and that people were clapping does not necessarily mean anything- they might have simply liked the tune or they might have found it ironic- just as Borat's audiences are supposed to find his film ironic and satirical. However, no judgement is every made about the people he features- he leaves that up to the audience.
Lastly, some villagers have said that they were tricked in to believing that the makers of this film wanted to make a sympathetic film about them and that they were paid just a few pounds to star in it. Part of the reason why so many people are going to see this film is that it gives them a licence to laugh at anything but is that always OK?

That seen where the two of them ran out of their hotel room, naked, and ran inside an elevator- I thought I wasn't gonna make it to the end of the movie, I though I was going to die laughing! But right after that, they are running into some convention center inside the hotel, and that's when I fell on the floor, and started kicking! I don't think I EVER laughed that hard in my entire life.
Thank You Borat! You are the best!

I noticed that there's a few people laugh at the jokes in the movie and then afterward pretend like they found it offensive. Those are the jack a** who laugh because they like the idea of the stereotype but don't want others to know it. As for the rest of us who know it's a joke & take it as it's a joke just laugh because it's funny as hell.

It was a very funny film that showed up the American's involved in the film as stupid, ignorant and blatantly racist.
They were "duped" into thinking it was a real docmentary, and got paid for taking part in it so it is there own fault.

the movie was funny, but one part kinda creeped me out. Not the nude fight, but the part when he tries to buy a gun to protect himself from the Jews and the guy actually recommends stuff to him. Also I heard the frat boys in the movie are suing him becuase they came off as racist and sexist in the movie.

he is just showing us what people really say when they are caught offguard.
He is hillarious and all the people in his film that are now trying to sue him should be honoured they were part of such a masterpiece of comedy genius!
