it means that this might be your homework!

You get:

8 m
--- = ---
52 39

so 8*39 equals 52*m (like a cross)

then... you take 52 to its original position...

8*39
------ = m = 6
52

m is the variable in this problem...your goal is to find what m is. You can think of the m as a ? instead, if that helps you.

The easiest way to answer this question is to do cross multiplication. How you do this is write the fractions one on top of each other. Then, you have 39 and 8 diagonal from each other, and 52 and m diagonal from each other. You want to multiply the 2 numbers that you know (39 and 8) and then divide by the number that you do know within the set of numbers that you don't know (you don't know m in the diagonal pair 52 and m, so you divide by 52). So, 39 x 8 is 312. 312 divided by 52 is 6. So, m = 6.

Please add more information to your question if any of this is unclear! Good luck!

the m is the place holder for whatever number should go above 39.

how you find what m is is you multiply both sides by thirty nine.

39(8/52)=39(m/39)
because there is a 39 on both the top and the bottom of the fraction with the m on it, it becomes just 1m

after multiplying the eight by 39 you get

312/52=m

then you need to reduce, that gives you

m=6

(the first thing that you want to try when reducing is simply dividing the numerator by the denominator, sometimes this will not work. when it doesnt, you need to factor out the greatest common factor of both numbers)

This is a simple ratio problem. m is the number that will make the equation true.

It is solved by multiplying both side by 39:

(8/52) * 39 = (m/39) * 39

(8*39)/52 = m

m = 6

use it in fraction form
8 = m
__ __
52 39

Multiply 8 by 39, then, divide the result by 52.

multiply both sides by52
(8/52)*52=m/39
8=(m/39)*52=4m/3 (cancelling by 13)
multiply by 3/4
8(3/4)=4m/3(3/4)
simplifying
m=6

m is a variable. That means m represents a number that you have to find. So you try to get m on one side and everything else on the other side by multiplying and dividing.

In this case, you can "cross multiply"
52m = 39 x 8

m = (39 x 8) / 52

m = 6

Th lowest term of 8/52 is n. Now you have to turn n and m/39 into similar fractions. The numerator is m. If you have to do the same thing and you cant tun them into lowest terms, just turn them into similar fractions.
