If "good pictures" are defined by their image size. The best place where you can get current photo's is at http://sports.yahoo.com's NBA gallery. And if you visit the site early enough, you can even get larger sizes of the current pictures that they offer.
As for old pictures, NBA.com would be the best source.

Go to Sports Illustrated's Photo Galleries. Tons of good pics, not just of basketball.
