i think spurt sounds better..it sounds more forceful and it sound like there is more of it..whatever it may be
squirt sounds like a really short person.."hey there little squirt"

Depends on what you're trying to describe. A spurt could be used as in a spurt of energy, whereas a squirt is a little squirt of polish is all you need.
