It got charred because of a short. You know when you take jumper cables and you touch the ends together and it sparks. Same thing. I've actually seen jumper cables catch on fire before. It was really cool. You must buy a new battery. Batteries gradually lose their ability to hold a charge.

For the power charger either the inside is + and the outside is - or visa versa. Sometime the jack might get screwed up and short out or your plug might short out.

I'm not sure, but that sounds pretty unsafe to me. Did you get that charger from the manufacturer? Have you contacted them and asked if there are any problems with the battery or battery charger or heating issues with the battery charger port? If there was, you can probably get one for free, if not, it sounds like the kind of issue that a professional should take a look at, because if it's heating up that much it's a fire hazard.

Something is not right. Check that the charger is the correct one for your laptop. Do not charge your laptop unattended, it could catch fire. You may need a new power controller for the laptop, and/or a new battery.
