People watch taxes because they can easily see how they affect them. But it's government _spending_ we should really be watching. As a libertairian I think most government spending is wrong. But at least the Democrats are honest. They say they want to tax the people to give money to their favored causes. When the Republicans took over all branches of government a while back they did so by claiming they wanted to reduce spending and cutting taxes. They cut taxes and grew government spending at the highest rate ever seen in US history. All spending is in fact a form of taxation. The only question is who's going to pay.

Actually, how can any Republican be against raising the minimum wage? They sure didn't mind taking tax cuts!
The only tax increases Democrats they have talked about are the rich and businesses who have gotten huge tax cuts, then go out and gouge us at the pump!
I really don't understand a Republicans mindset as they say one thing and do another! Smaller government and balanced budgets. That sure is a crock.
Bush has run up the National debt by about 4 Trillion, and has a 3/4 Trillion dollar deficit because of the war, but that isn't included in the budget!
Already 1/2 of out budget goes to the military and interest on the deficit! As the deficit goes up, so does the amount of interest you pay!
The Republicans so far have ignored the deficit other than taking the middle classes taxes and give them to the Rich, then they have cut programs for the elderly , children, and the disabled for 12 years! Moreover they have been shipping jobs out of this country at a record clip!
Much they cut end up at the doorsteps of the states to fund!
How long do Republicans think they can rob from the poor! How long can you ignore the deficit that spiraled faster upward than under any other president!
Cars can't run on air and neither can this country! It would be a damn shame if Republicans have to pay their share! Heaven forbid!

How come democrats almost always give sources and republicans never do? As far as the taxes, the only thing they want to do about that is to reverse the tax cuts for the 1% wealthiest Americans. They have no intentions as a whole to raise taxes on the average American.

Yes that was it from the git go just raise tax's that fixes anything that was the only thing they were really sure of! first bush shoved this war down our throat's now the democrats are going to extort are money to pay for it ( damned if we do or if we don't) Wat's wrong with this picture?

What he is saying is that spending reductions alone won't eliminate the deficit and start to pay off the debt. He's not in government so he can only make recommendations. That doesn't mean that the new congress can or will act on them.
