What was the name of the chef from the original Crossroads?

Before any answers Shewie McFee, it was'nt his name I am looking for. This chef was in love with Diane Hunter. When he told her this, she shunned him. There was a final scene, with his hat floating on the pond at Five Oaks. As though he had committed suicide in his despair. Nobody has come up with the answer, and I have asked so many people over the years. You could make my mum very happy, as she asked to put this question out.
