Earlier I asked about stopping my period, I was a little unclear. I'm 29!!! It's not my first period. I just wanted to stop it/end it early for this month. It started yesterday, I'd like to find a way to end it by Wednesday. This is usually a 10 day affair, (wonderful) but I want to have a life this month! So, knowing that I'm not 12, any ideas?

To my knowledge, there is no way to voluntarily shorten your period without chemical intervention.

However - and completely aside from your question - considering your extended period cycle, have you contemplated using BC pills or the shot, patch, Nuva ring, or some other type of hormonal contraceptive? It is apparent that you have a very elongated cycle and I feel for you and your desire for some freedom from it! Please consider seeking medical care for this. If you have no medical preclusion from using hormonal contraceptives and are not planning on getting pregnant any time soon, it may be worth looking into - your periods will be regular and SHORTER...and as a bonus, you CAN control the timing of your periods.

If you have decided on not having children at all, there is a technique available to lighten periods called balloonoplasty. A small balloon-like device is inserted into the uterine cavity, filled with water, and then super-heated for a period of about 8-10 minutes. This helps to thin the uterine lining (endometrium), thereby lightening the flow and duration of your periods. The down-side is that it almost ensures the inability of a fertilized egg to implant for impregnation. Something else to consider......

Sorry I have no answer for u, but did want to say this, I thought I had read somewhere that ice skaters take something to stop the onset of their period when competing in championship events. It`s worth a call to ur gynecologist`s office to ask if there is such a medication, being u want to do this just for a month. Good luck.

There is something called "menstrual extraction" which I read about a billion years ago in "Our Bodies Ourselves." I did a quick search and found this link: http://www.sisterzeus.com/MenExt.htm

However, it doesn't seem like this is something you (or your best friend) can do, and in the amount of time it would take you to find a crunchy midwife or white witch type woman to do this, your period will have ended.

That being said, ten days is sure a long time for a period. Have you discussed endometrial ablation with your GYN? Here is a link: http://www.novasure.com/

No ideas. I am 37 and have 10-14 days at a time. Nothing I know of to stop them except for a hysterectomy

The pill. I recommend the 3pack Seasonel...then you can go a whole 3 months without having to worry..it's also very cheap.
Unfortunately, that won't help you in your time frame but it will the next time.
