Goldfish are like that. They'll either die within days or even hours of bringing them home, or they'll last for years. My wife and I got one for a wedding gift-- in January of 2003-- and he's still alive!

You probably did nothing wrong, it may just have been the shock of a new environment, or just a generally unhealthy fish to begin with. Buy another. (And maybe another). You'll eventually end up with one that lasts for years.

it could be something wrong with the water...goldfish are very sensitive creatures..and something as simple as the water can hurt it or possibly kill the goldfish..what you should do is bring the dead fish back and say why it died...haha they could of sold you a dead fish soo just return it and dump it in the store

The water could have been off, or the fish could have just had too much stress being moved or it could have been sick. Call Petsmart and they will replace it.

Goldfish though extremely hearty can go into shock, differences in your water and the store's water. transporting them, sometimes we just get weak fish when we buy them. I'm sorry for your loss.

Its prolly not your fault - as long as you done what they told you - meaning: You added some fresh water with the right temperature or slowly got him used to the water of the tank and offered some food - he prolly was sick already

There are no guarantees in life, when your time is up, or a goldfish's time is up...it is up.
