I like the Orleans IMHO it's the best value in LV, check it out see if they have the amenitites you're looking for. The Orleans will price match any online room rate you find. http://www.orleanscasino.com
Stratosphere Tower: this hotel anchors the North end of the LV strip. If you're into thrill rides, oh boy. They also have a European "adults only" pool...Rooms are okay and the rates are low.
At the South end of the strip "the so called, second four corners" I would recommend the Luxor. I like this one, where else can you stay in an actual pyramid. Sign up for their e-mails, Luxor is one of the better LV hotels for promotions..
The best location among the one I have listed, and located closest to the "four corners" is Paris, this place is both nice and reasonable prices, at least compared to it's neighbors...Request a room that overlooks the Fountains of Bellagio..
If by chance you're interested, I stay at Main Street Station or the Golden Nugget when I stay downtown. Others I could suggest that are off the strip include, Boulder Station, Sam's Town, Silverton or the Fiesta Henderson...You can check them all out on the LVA site provided.
Best site for "VEGAS INFO" >shows,activities,bars-clubs,hotels Etc, with ratings/reviews and links. This site is for their 30,000+ paid members, who get a newsletter the POV and use of the "paid" side of the LVA forum...Everyone can take advantage of the site/information for free, including the free forum for visitors..

Where you stay depends on your budget.
Most of the hotels have promos from time-to-time and you can find when you book using their websites. Staying at a 2nd tier hotel (Budget Inn, Motel 6) is not significantly cheaper than staying in the lowest price rooms of one of the major casino hotels. And you'll have to walk a few blocks further.
If you are not there for the gambling (!?), you can stay in Boulder City, near Lake Mead.
To do: Casinos, very cheap to very expensive restaurants, free nightly outdoor shows at the major hotels, shows (like Cirque De Solei, Elvis, Camelot, Major stars, etc.) Hiking all over (Red Rock Canyon, Mt Charleston, mountains in/around Boulder City), your close enough to visit Zion Nat'l Park, boating on Lake Mead, THE real Hoover Dam.
Eat at The Coffee Cup in Boulder City or the buffet at the Bellagio.

Most of the hotels on the strip are now family oriented, and have different things to do, if you stayed a month, you would never run out of things to do. Vegas is a really great time. Have fun. You can also check out their visitors center, right on the strip.

If you are looking for free and unusual contact the people at the Atomic Testing Museum. They will arrange to put you aboard a bus that will take you through the test site where nuclear bombs were detonated years ago---- Very interesting. Atomic Testing Museum, 755 E. Flamingo Road; Las Vegas ,Nevada. (702) 794-5161.
