you would work in a theatre I would imagine...the tech aspects of a modern theater...lighting, sound, special effects etc.....you would prolly work w/ pc applications guided by a director to produce a stage show...there would be more aspects of theatrical tech...makeup, wardrobe...even financial formulation...if you could talk w/ instructers/professors and ask these types of questions before you enroll that would be cool...good luck...

It depends on whether you are drawn to technical design aspect or being a stage technician.
As a designer, you could
--have a resident position with a theatre, or work for several different theatres.
--It's also possible to work in a resident teaching and design position at a university or college.
--Designers, of course, are also needed for companies who don't have a fixed building, such as touring or Broadway bound productions.
--Designers are also needed in film and television production, and increasingly by churches as they become more high tech and increase their production values.
As a stagehand or stage technician, you could
--be a member of a local union with the possibility of being attached to a theatre
--or being a local jobber for whatever work becomes available.
--There is also with this the possibility of touring with productions, bands, staged shows for more specialized audiences (such as Veggie Tales, Disney on Ice, Momma I Want to Sing... that sort of thing).
If you continue to a Masters Level in Technical Theatre, you will gain a lot of experience. I know the University I attended, the technical people graduated with much more experience and better portfolios than the actors or directors.

If you don't know what you want to do with a major in Technical Theater, why are you doing it as a major? You can work at a community or regional theater, you can teach technical theater in high school or college. You can work in a public school. . . .
