I have great skincare products - among them handmade soaps and Shea Body Butter, goats milk lotions, bath fizzies, body spray and other treats. I would like to get them into stores, but while I beleive in my product, i am not very good with sales. How do I find independent sales reps in cities around the country to promote an place the product in stores, or to sell them in a party plan way (I would give $75 of free product to the host for hosting a party to sell the items. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

advertise in popular newspapers or look in the very back of a beauty mag to see about advertising there. Also, maybe you could put a flyer up at a college saying you will pay a marketing student for helping you.

I'm guessing you're buying them wholesale from someone - are you branding them yourself?

Why don't you start with the schools that have the "girls night out" with all of the tupperware and other products, and see if you can get some home parties from that. Unless you can afford hard cash and not just product, you'll find few independent sales reps willing to sell your product. Dont' know how much financial backing you have to do that.

It's difficult, that's for sure... I've tried finding them a variety of ways. I advertised in the Help Wanted section in a major newspaper... generated a few calls but no takers. I eventually asked my sister to host a party... and it was successful. Perhaps the best route is to encourage the party plan way as you discussed.

www.craigslist.com is a great online advertising space (free and they have a sales/business development section)
Another way is to advertise in a natural foods magazine or paper.

You need to build a brand and create some buzz. Are you African American? If so try to reach well-known African Americans and see if they'll try your products and give you a quote you can use for promotion.

Also check out your local SBDC. They can give you free marketing advice and direction.
