my fiance is from colombia. he is not a u.s. citizen. we plan on getting married in febuary. do we need permission first before getting married. is there paperwork and forms to fill out before we get married? or do we do the forms after we are married?

i have been through this, my husband is british. you need an immigration lawyer to help you and i suggest you get one immediately.

Things might have changed since 9-11, but my experience was.... (I am married to a guy from England)...

In the USA, you can apply for a fiance visa, but dont do that. It's too much trouble.

As soon as you get married, he can apply for his perm residency. It's a long process. You don't have to have any permission or paperwork before the wedding.

You didn't mention if he is a resident of the USA, on a visa etc....

An immigration lawyer is your best bet, the paperwork is overwhelming.

you'd have to contact your county...when you get your marriage license that will probably come up.
