Normally expulsion is for a term of time which is indefinite depending on the infraction of the rule. For a serious offense a child may be expelled for the rest of the school year, they may also be expelled from the school that they attend if there is another school in the district they may have to attend there. The child and his or her parents have to appear before a panel of people from the school board. They look at the child's history, the seriousness of the problem and the danger that the child might present to others. Usually there is a principal from the child's school and letters from the teachers talking about what the child has or has not done. Its not just the student but the parent who must acknowledge that the breech of conduct was done, and show that it will not happen again. The parent needs to assume responsiblity for the child's behavior and schooling and if the child is expelled from the school make arrangements for homeschooling or private schooling until the term of the expulsion is up. To be reinstated in the school, after the term of the expulsion is over, the parent, child and administrator meet to agree on a probationary code of conduct, If the child breaks that probation, he or she will be permanently expelled.

You should have received an expulsion letter. It should outline all of the necessary tasks and time frames before re-admission.
