I have a very special person that I have recently met and I would really like to cultivate a special friendship with her. She is married and has kids and I am single. How do I overcome feeling like a 5th wheel? How can I find time to do things with just her? We are very compatible. I appreciate any advice you can give me. I really want this to work....!!!

BTW.. I am a girl, so I am not talking about trying to ruin her marriage.. I am just talking about forming a special "girl friend" friendship.

Just be there for her. Since she has a family she can't go out all the time so just let her let you know when she is available to go to the movies or shopping. Don't interfere and possibly cause problems in her marriage because her husband and kids come first. I'm married with kids and I wish i had someone like you who wanted to be my friend. I don't have alot of girl friends to go places with or just be a sounding board when i'm having a problem. Good luck.

The best thing you do is just be yourself and be honest. Over time if the friendship is truly meant to be it will develop and it will be everlasting. Try maybe asking her and her kids over for an afternoon BBQ or lunch and see how that goes. Just see how things go...

1. respect her time and that she has responsibilites, that the time she has isnt as free as yours.
2. dont talk badly about other people, avoid gossip.
3. be loyal and honest
4. be willing to compromise & negotiate in the friendship.
5. be there to offer support, just listen, and dont criticize
6. be willing to ask her when she would like to hang out and respect her wishes if she says something like i just want to be with my husband or kids tonight etc.
7. again, just be willing to listen!
