If you are located in the US, you can buy your niece a gift card to Toys R US.
You can put however much you want on the gift card. That way she can pick toys of her choice and pay it with the gift card.
Put the gift card in a small box and wrap it up with a ribbon on top.
Gift cards are more appreciated than actual bulky gifts(that the recipient may not like) because they can buy whatever they want from the stores. It's also less of a headache for you so you don't wonder what they may or may not want. Gift cards are hardly returned or given away to someone else too.

I hope this helps!

that depends. is she a total girly girl? Get her a Barbie, (inexpensive children's) jewelry or dress up clothes. more of a tomboy? Maybe something more like a jump-rope or an electronic toy. Of course, a gift certificate to a toy store or bookstore is a sure bet, especially if you promise to take her shopping.

Get a favorite cartoon character, a 6 year old does not need a toy that cost 100 dollars, all they do is usually break it anyway.

6 year old girls love to play makeover. Maybe get her some glitter makeup and a diary. My daughter got one when she was six and she loved it. Bratz dolls are always good and depending on the girl she might enjoy barbies better.

you are a very generous Aunt/Uncle

bike, skates, a video collection, cd player,

If you live near by you may want to make a special event with your Niece, like going out to the movies and dinner something they WILL remember their whole life, especially if you make it a tradition.

the best thing to do is find out what she likes and go from there. I have a niece that is 6 and I just ask my brother or sister-in-law what kind of things she likes to do and what she has ask for that they can not buy and go from their it's eaiser this way.
