There was a web site that tried to sell you their "antivirus" software, as a scare tactic they would make your CD open up. Some spyware later imitated the scare tactic, making your CD open and shut. Unfortunately, some problems inside the CD circuitry will also make it do that.
I recommend you scan for viruses and spyware. If you come up dry, learn to live with it or replace your burner.

I have a Dell that does the same thing. I even had the CD replaced but it still does it. On mine I can open and close the CD by tapping the top of the case above the CD. The only other alternative is to use the operating system software to open and close it.
The technician told me there must be a short somewhere but he couldn't / wouldn't find it.
Sometimes the dammed thing keeps opening and closing continually. But I have now learnt to live with its eccentricities.

It's a virus, I've ran into it before. There are also websites that can order your computer to open the CD ROM drive. Just to be safe I'd scan the computer for viruses ASAP

undesirable force is a definate probability, i have considered hack courses attempt this also, an anti-virus can purely detect something it already is familiar with exists. If a virus is too new it may not learn about it. this style of virus that would want to attempt this's perhaps a Trojan.
