I was induced with both of my children and to tell you the truth I would do it again. It is not that bad. At least all of my experiences were good. I had my first son at exactly 38 wks. then with my second son I had him at 38 wks and 2 days. I was only dilated to 2 cm. when I got induced and as soon as they inserted the cervidil I started having contractions then 4 hrs. later I had him. So I would think that there wouldn't be any problem with you getting induced on the 14th especially if you are already 3 cm dilated. Good luck.

I recently had my baby on Nov. 2nd and I was induced. My baby was 5 pounds and 9 ounces.. I really would have preferred to not be induced because the baby would have had more time too develop. The doctor told me that I was 3 cm and a few hours later he said I was only 4cm. I was only 36 weeks and 3 days, that was too soon...
They did not want to send me home because he felt that the baby would have came out during the night.
My baby is doing fine however he is too small.. If your baby is 6 pounds she/he will be a lot healthier then my baby. If you can tell the doctor to not induce you then do so.. Just wait until the baby is ready... Good Luck!!!!

you've had a lot of answers already but figured I would give my 2 cents. if you're comfortable with it, then I don't see a problem. It's pretty safe altho there is a possibility of problems-but there is no matter how you go into labour. I have 7 month old twins and I was induced at 37 weeks, would have been 36 weeks if I had been dialated at all. I was in major pain and discomfort and knew induction was the right choice. My dr told me that if you've started dialating then induction usually goes better. I personally liked being induced becuz I got to have an epidural right away so I didn't have to actual feel any of my labour. If you're not planning on an epidural, think about it becuz the medication can make you have longer, harder contractions.
good luck with what you decided. oh, and don't let the dr decided for you, if you want to do it, go for it. if you don't, just tell your dr you're not comfortable with it. it's YOUR decision.

If there are any health issues, the doctor will recommend in inducing labor. I would suggest to wait until you're past your due date. Try to walk a lot; this will induce labor naturally. I was 3 cm dialated at 36 weeks. My husband and I walked 1 hr after work as soon as I found out that I was 3 cm dialated. Three days labor, my water broke and I was in the hospital giving birth to my son.

I know that feeling I was hard headed with my first child and was dialated 4cm for almost a week then the pain just kept getting worse I didnt want to be induced but after they did I was happy because it didnt take long till I was holding my daughter. I had her 11-11 and she was due 11-4 so I went a week in that pain. She weighed 9lbs 3oz so I would let the doctor induce you.

38 weeks 2 days is fine as far as the baby is concerned. If you are in a lot of pain go for it! Being induced is just "different" because your contractions start out a little more intense than they would if you went into labor naturally but in the end it's all the same. GOOD LUCK!

I was never one to think inducing was safe, the baby will come when it's ready and if she's dropped as far as you say it has then I say let nature take it course. It's very natural to be in pain and uncomfortable toward the end.
In my opinion the only real reason for inducing is it the mother's life is in danger or if the baby is so past due that it's in danger, other then that let it be...kinda like "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

have you had kids before who had high birth weights or any complications? If not there's really no reason if you don't want to induce. I was induced with my last child because he was already over 8lbs so we scheduled the induction for a week before his due date. I had a good experience but if you don't feel it's right for you and there's not a medical reason to do it then don't. I would hate to think the doc is doing this for his/her own convienence so ask more questions before you decide.

I've always said don't induce, I've had three children and it was best to not induce. (tried it both ways) and I'm like you I've heard lots of bad stories about inducing. But if your in pain, and you feel confident in your doctor, and his(her) advice is induce. Then you should listen to your doctor, as long as their not wanting to induce because it fits there schedule better, its because its whats best for you and the baby. Its not good for either of you for you to be in pain.

This "induce in a hurry" attitude was not around in 1980 to 1983----when my 3 were born.
I went 9 1/2 months with my first, no problems!
I say, unless the baby shows signs of distress, Mother Nature knows best!
Go with your gut feeling.
And congrats on your new baby, and (phuuuuuuueee) that's a wish blown your way for a happy baby!!!!
